MOUNT VERNON — A new retaining wall for Mound View Cemetery will cost the city upwards of $700,000, according to estimates projected by project designer Shremshock Architects & Engineers.

Barry Baughman, a representative of Shremshock, spoke with Mount Vernon City Council on Monday night during a Parks and Land Committee meeting to go over three design proposals for the project.

The proposals were designed in order to give City Council members the opportunity to pick and choose the components they liked best and to get a grasp on the cost of the project.

Option one includes a poured wall and a black anodized aluminum picket fence. The cost for materials and labor for the wall will be $170,500 with $19,900 for the fence.

This wall would create a smooth top to the wall that would be between 4 and 6 feet high, depending on the slope of the ground. It would also require the removal of the sidewalk and shade trees for construction.
