MOUNT VERNON — Manufacturing jobs in Mount Vernon were up during the period of July 2009 to August 2010, with 279 new hires.
“This is unheard of in Ohio to see an increase in manufacturing jobs,” Area Development Foundation Director Steve Waers told Mount Vernon City Council on Monday night.
Owens Corning added 10 new jobs bringing its total number of employees to 41.
“These are the highest paid blue collar jobs in the county,” Waers said. “Starting pay is over $16 an hour.”
PACS, which is taking over the former TRW facility, will add 40 new full-time jobs with its expansion.
Overall, Waers said the manufacturing climate in the city looks good as work force numbers remain steady and businesses invest money into their operations.
