Investigating a crash on Ohio 13
Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Todd Carpenter measured off distance as he investigated this crash on Ohio 13, just north of the Fredericktown bypass, on Wednesday at 12:40 p.m. Carpenter said Darlene Smith, 57, Fredericktown, driving the car in the background, was making a left turn when it was hit in the driver’s door by Ryan Robinson, 18, Zanesville. Carpenter said Smith was fortunate some of the impact was taken by the door frame. She was taken to Knox Community Hospital for treatment by the Fredericktown Community Volunteer Fire Department squad, where she was treated and released. Carpenter added Robinson was going too fast to stop. He was charged with assured clear distance ahead. (Virgil Shipley)

Helping out a friend
Emma Conkle of North Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon, now has enough wood for the rest of the winter thanks to members of her church. Paul DeVore is shown loading a wagon with pieces of wood from the trailer; about 1 1/2 cords was delivered and stacked. The other men, Shawn Conrad, Jim Schock, Don Bryan and Ron Warner cut and split the wood Wednesday from one of their farms. The weather was perfect for the work, they said, sunny and cool with a light breeze. (Virgil Shipley)
