MOUNT VERNON — Cole Burgett has announced his intention to run for City Council in the First Ward seat of Mount Vernon. He has lived in Mount Vernon the last eight years.

Burgett, a Republican, is employed by Discover Financial Services as an analyst. One of his greatest strengths and joys is to be presented with a problem and to find multiple solutions to the problem. In addition to his work at DFS he is also an adjunct faculty member for Mount Vernon Nazarene University in the Adult and Graduate Studies Program.

“In my work at DFS, I will be given a problem and am asked to diagnose the cause and to formulate an appropriate solution,” said Burgett. “Typically, tens of millions or billions of dollars are affected in these projects and I know my experience doing this will translate well into City Council where I will look to make more efficient use of our city resources.”

Burgett has been a volunteer coach for the Kokosing Valley Youth Baseball League and Upward Soccer as well as serving as vice president for the East Elementary PTO.

When asked why he wants to be a part of City Council he said, “I will work to foster an environment where families can put down roots and flourish. I believe strong families make strong communities and will be working to create an environment conducive of this in the First Ward.

“I want to be on City Council because I believe I can bring innovative ideas to Mount Vernon to prosper us into the future. I see every day the efforts of city officials working to attract jobs to the area and I think why not here, why not us and why not now?”

Burgett earned his undergraduate degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University and earned his master’s degree in business administration from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in 2008 by completing the Young Executive Master’s Degree in business administration. He and his wife, Laura, have three children.
