MOUNT VERNON — The investigation into the explosion and fire at 6626 Granville Road, on Feb. 23, has been completed by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the cause of the fire was ruled as undetermined.

“However, investigators believe the most probable cause of the fire is a malfunction in the home’s furnace,” said Shane Cartmill, public information officer for the SFMO.

Because the home was vacant and on the market following a foreclosure, officials also investigated for any signs of foul play. According to Cartmill, there was no evidence of a crime.

Realtor Dave Culbertson, who showed the home the day it exploded, said the bank, which owns the property, has no intentions of rebuilding.
