MOUNT VERNON — The new Pat Catan’s in the Knox Village Square shopping plaza was officially welcomed to the Mount Vernon community this morning when local representatives conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to kick off a three-day grand opening celebration.
“We truly are a family-oriented company,” said Steve Eckrich, manager for the local Pat Catan’s store. “These first few weeks we have certainly welcomed all who have been here, and I think this will be a good community partnership.”
Attending the ceremony with other city officials was Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis. As Mavis and other visitors were given a tour prior to the ribbon cutting, Mavis stated that it is now nice not having to travel out of Mount Vernon to find the best in craft supplies.
“You’ve provided employment to many people here in the community, and we are pleased to welcome Pat Catan’s to Mount Vernon,” said Mavis.
The grand opening continues throughout this weekend. Special demonstrations are planned all three days where visitors can learn the art of jewelry making, bow making, floral arranging, candy making, plastic canvas and others. Various adult classes are ongoing and can be signed up for at the customer service center. Also offered at Pat Catan’s are children’s birthday parties and a Kids Camp.
Another feature is the “Make and Take” for children, where youngsters can make their own crafts and take them home.
“It’s just a lot of fun for the little ones,” said craft coordinator Lorraine Hughes, who was ready to assist the children in making bookmarks and head visors.
Grand opening hours at Pat Catan’s are today and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Craft demonstrations will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
