HOWARD — A Wise Choice propane truck rolled over on U.S. 36, a mile east of Howard, on Monday just after noon. The accident shut down the highway between Howard and Millwood for three hours.

The driver, Kenneth Pack, 42, Perrysville, was taken to Knox Community Hospital. He was later transferred to Grant Medical Center for treatment. He is expected to be released today.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Pack was eastbound around a slight curve when the truck ran off the right edge of the road. It traveled more than 100 feet, came back on the road and rolled over twice on the road. It came to rest on the truck’s driver’s side on the left side of the road.

Wise Choice owner Bob Wise said the truck went airborne and landed heavily on metal lugs on the tank that dug into and scarred the pavement. One wheel came down so hard on the pavement it made a scar in the pavement and left tire rubber marks on the road.

Although the tank was marked and dented, it was not punctured and did not leak propane gas. Wise said the 3,499-gallon capacity tank was nearly full. A second truck was used to transfer the fuel before the disabled vehicle was towed from the scene.

The Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District transported Pack to the hospital.

No charges have been filed as the OSHP continues to investigate the accident.
