MOUNT VERNON — With the recent good weather Mount Vernon Street Department crews are out working on the potholes that need it the most.
“They are out patching again [Friday] and are trying to remedy the worst areas in town which most people agree are West High Street and Coshocton Road,” said Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis. “They are still using cold mix. We did check with local suppliers of hot mix. Normally hot mix is available around mid-April. They didn’t give [Street Department Superintendent] David Carpenter a response as to when hot mix would be available. But he’s guessing it will be sometime in early April.”
Mavis said as soon as the city can get the hot mix it will be able to smooth down the rough areas in the streets.
Mavis also noted during the ice storm this winter the Street Department removed many tree limbs that had fallen on streets and roads to the side of the roads. The street department is now chipping those limbs.
“We will just be chipping our [tree] limbs,” Mavis explained. “We will not be chipping any limbs residents may have moved out from their backyards. We kept very accurate records and we know which limbs are ours.”
Mavis said delivery of the city’s new street sweeper will be delayed.
