DANVILLE — A large crowd helped the village of Danville proclaim March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. Mayor Bob Dile read a proclamation at the council meeting Monday and was presented the poster “Together We Inspire Possibilities.”
“I encourage all citizens to participate and proclaim March 2011 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and recognize that together we can accomplish more,” Dile said.
“I’d like to thank the Danville Council and the mayor in proclaiming March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month,” said Molly Wobbecke, the community service director for Knox County Developmental Disabilities. “I encourage everyone to get to know somebody with a disability, to employ somebody and to find out everything they can about them.”
During Monday’s meeting, council also heard from Chuck Staubs of Plum Street about a flood problem on his property. He said that two or three times a year, his property is completely under water and the basement gets flooded. Village Administrator Robert Shipley said the problem is because there is a watershed that runs through his backyard and the water gets trapped in front because of the driveways. He will look at the property closely and determine if there’s a way to solve the water problem.
