DANVILLE — Presentations by students highlighted Monday’s meeting of the Danville Board of Education.
Julie Didinger and Bailey Miller reported on Rally for Ally fundraising activities, and Sean Patrick, Hannah Moreland and Lela Dusthimer presented their projects related to the Holocaust.
Treasurer Mary Payne on Tuesday said the board also congratulated fellow board member Carolyn Addair, who received a 20-year service award from the Ohio School Boards Association.
During the business portion of the meeting, the board gave the Danville Athletic Boosters permission to enter school district property for the purpose of constructing an all-weather, eight-lane track. The boosters will be responsible for all costs in construction and installation of asphalt, securing the site during construction, providing liability insurance, and developing guidelines regarding who is permitted at the construction site and a person to oversee construction. The boosters will also be responsible for using design aspects for the installation of asphalt, drawings and base materials. The board allowed the project with the understanding the Danville School District will not be responsible for any unpaid balance.
In addition to confirming routine fiscal actions, the board approved the cooperative purchase of electric generation from AEP Retail Energy Partners LLC. Payne said the cooperative program is through the Metropolitan Educational Council and locks in the price of electricity for 33 months. The hope is the move will result in cost savings to the district.
