MOUNT VERNON — A preliminary hearing is scheduled on Friday for a Mount Vernon man charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Scott E. Thomas, 30, was arrested on Thursday and remains in the Knox County Jail after Mount Vernon Municipal Court Judge Paul Spurgeon set Thomas’ bond at $50,000 cash or surety. Jennifer Springer, assistant Knox County Prosecture requested that no 10 percent provision be acceptable; Spurgeon agreed.

The charge is a third degree felony with a possible sentence of one to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.
