MOUNT VERNON — The effects of the earthquake and tsunami which struck Japan last month are being felt by local companies with ties to Japan.

One is Mount Vernon’s Sanoh America plant, which manufactures brake tubes, fuel tubes and other tubular parts for automobiles. Vice President of Administration Lance Garceau said some of the suppliers in Japan have been impacted, and therefore some of Sanoh’s customers have been affected with that supply chain. That means they do not have some of the parts or components to run full production. If those customers make production reductions, said Garceau, that does impact Sanoh America’s business.

Garceau could not confirm any specific impact on the Mount Vernon plant. When asked, he said it is not necessarily the case that temporary workers have been affected. Nor would he say if maintenance personnel are working fewer days per week.

“I’m really not certain,” he said, “nor do I need that kind of detail.”
