MOUNT LIBERTY — Willow Grove Advent Church is a fixture in western Knox County, having been in its building at 7192 Columbus Road on the edge of Mount Liberty since 1895, when the building was erected.
Membership is probably in the “mid-80s” said Deacon Tim Wood, with an average Sunday attendance of about 35. Sunday services are at 10:45 a.m. with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. Bible study is held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
An Easter sunrise service is scheduled April 24, Easter Sunday, and Vacation Bible School is slated for June 27 to July 1.
“There will be youth activities once we have a permanent pastor,” Wood said.
He explained that the pervious pastor, Carl Hankins, retired earlier this year after 30 years with the church. Wood said he doesn’t know when a new pastor will be hired, but that they went into the process expecting it to take as long as a year to 18 months.
“We don’t have much experience at this hiring business,” he joked.
He said the church “believes in and espouses the second coming. We’re a Bible-believing church and that’s all we preach.”
