MOUNT VERNON — Making improvements around the city and providing safety through their various projects is the agenda of local Mount Vernon city officials, according to Dave Glass, Mount Vernon Safety-Service Director.
The connector road project between Yauger and Coshocton roads should get started in late May. City administration has been working closely with Knox Community Hospital on this project in considering a number of scenarios.
“We’re excited about getting this going,” he said. The project is expected to take three to four months to complete.
In looking at further traffic improvements on Coshocton Avenue, Glass said the city has been looking at options in making a smoother flow of traffic at the Yauger Road/Vernonview Drive intersection. An engineering firm has conducted a study of the traffic flow near this intersection and has drawn up some options. One main concern continues to be what to do with Eastwood Drive which connects Coshocton Road with Yauger Road; and the two properties adjacent to Eastwood.
“We believe in the long term that we should own those (lots),” said Glass. “If we make the proper improvements, it would almost be a necessity for us to own them.”
