MOUNT VERNON — A total of 421 pinwheels adorn the front lawn at the Knox Children Advocacy Center, 116 E. High St. These represent the community members who have voiced their concerns and advocated for children in Knox County during 2010. As part of “Pinwheels for Prevention,” Ohio’s Prevent Child Abuse campaign, the Knox County Commissioners have proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The commissioners met Monday morning with Matthew Kurtz, director of Knox County Job and Family Services, after signing a resolution to officially recognize the proclamation. A formal ceremony will take place in front of the Memorial Building at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to commemorate Knox County’s commitment to the “Pinwheels for Prevention” campaign.
