NEWARK — During a recent move of the Central Ohio Technical College Student Records Management Office from one campus location to another, some individual records were left unsecured for a brief period of time — less than 24 hours. The college was informed of this and immediately retrieved the records and moved them to a secured location.

As a result of this situation, COTC has contacted each of the 617 students whose information was contained within these records. As an immediate resolution and precautionary measure, this group of students has been offered the opportunity to enroll in a credit monitoring and protection program free of charge for one year, in order to help detect any possible misuse of information.

For long-term resolution, the college has taken steps to ensure that key personnel maintain oversight with regard to any future moves of department offices.

The college will be closely monitoring this situation and work directly with any student who has questions or concerns. COTC is committed to assuring the security of student data. Students who have questions have been asked to contact Jackie Stewart, registrar, at 740-364-9599.
