GAMBIER — “Plant it for the Planet” was this theme for the Earth Day festival held Sunday at Kenyon College. A cooperative event between the Brown Family Environmental Center of Kenyon College, Knox Community Hospital, the Knox County Health Department and the Knox County Park District, the festival highlighted how one’s health and a healthy environment go hand-in-hand.

“We want people to know that the environment is personal,” said Heather Doherty of the Brown Family Environmental Center. “It’s something you should care about, not just because of animals, but because of you. One example is food. We’re promoting local food and gardening here. Buying it locally is environmentally sound, because it’s not being shipped so far. It supports the local economy and it’s healthy.”

One vendor, Bonnie Snyder of Our Garden in Danville, said she really enjoys meeting the people at the Earth Day festival and introducing people to the idea of community supported agriculture.
