MOUNT VERNON — Facing an uncertain financial future, the Knox County Educational Service Center board, after lengthy discussion on Wednesday, acted to reduce its operating costs by $400,000, including severe changes to the Alternative Center.

Superintendent Timm Mackley said with the continuing decreases in state funding, it will be difficult for the ESC to operate unless cuts are made.

The board voted to eliminate the positions of one preschool teacher and one preschool teacher aide, and eliminated the position of preschool secretary. It also abolished the position of one secretary at the ESC offices.
