MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Board of Health is considering asking voters for a new tax levy in 2012. During Monday’s regular monthly meeting, Knox County Health Commissioner Julie Miller recommended that the board pursue asking for a levy next year and carefully determine exactly what the department’s needs would be.

“If we continue for a few years at our current pace, this will not help us out,” said Miller. “We would pretty much continue on bare bones, and staffing would be difficult.” The health department currently operates on a 0.4-mill levy which has been renewed in the past. Miller stated she would look into the history of rates and get the breakdown on votes by community and report back to the board.
