MOUNT VERNON — Watching gasoline prices climb steadily is disheartening. It’s especially aggravating to pay today’s prices and then, just a short drive down the road, find a station that charges a few cents less per gallon.
It may not be much, but every penny helps.
The increase in gas prices by more than 35 cents in one day was a complete sticker shock to many on Thursday. A reader-generated gas watch can help Knox County residents keep track of gas prices without ever leaving home.
The Gas Watch Program, available on the Mount Vernon News website helps you find the lower-priced gas or lets others know where you found it.
“If you spot a good price, fill out the form and submit it and it will show up on the Gas Watch page,” said News Webmaster Joshua Morrison. “It’s part of the online newspaper.”
To participate, you don’t have to be a subscriber or log in, you just have to leave a name and e-mail address.
“We will primarily be listing Knox County gas prices, but if readers want to report others, we can add them,” Morrison said.
To reach the site, go to www.mountvernonnews.com/local/gaswatch.
The page is available 24 hours per day. Check prices before you leave home in the morning and report what you find when you get back. Maybe we can all save a little money.
