MOUNT VERNON — Although only three high schools were able to participate Thursday in the 2011 Knox County Speech contest, the competition was fierce, and only one point separated the first- and second-place finishers in most of the categories.

Danville High School’s Anna Lamb edged out Clear Fork’s Rachel McKinley to win the declamation category. McKinley was second and other speakers in the category included Ben Homer and Trevor Rush of Clear Fork High School, and Lindsay Mapes of Centerburg High School.
