  • Motorists traveling through Mount Vernon on South Main Street were greeted by an OVI checkpoint Friday evening between 9 p.m. and midnight. Conducted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol with assistance from the Mount Vernon Police Department and Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the checkpoint was a way to deter impaired drivers, according to Lt. Chad McGinty of the OSHP. McGinty stated that there has been an increase in OVI arrests as well as OVI impaired crashes lately. Above, Cpl. Scott McKnight of the MVPD runs an individual through a test of walking a straight line.
