MOUNT VERNON — Knox Community Hospital is investigating the theft of X-rays from the hospital after impostors picked up X-ray film from the hospital last fall.
Personal information found on the X-rays included name, birth date and the body part identified in the X-ray. No addresses, phone numbers or Social Security numbers were attached to the X-ray, according to KCH spokesperson Prema Samhat.
“Staff members discovered the theft, launched a thorough investigation and reported the incident to the police,” stated a media release from KCH. “KCH is following all state and federal reporting requirements.”
Samhat said the old X-rays, dated 2005 and earlier, have street value because of the silver content. In addition, she stated other hospitals in Ohio and surrounding states have been the victims of similar incidents.
Hospital staff is going through refresher training and policy reviews, and revisions to maintain the security of patient information.
Patients with concerns can contact the hospital at 393-9058 or e-mail at privacy.officer@knoxcommhosp.org.
