MOUNT VERNON — News about the death of Osama bin Laden late Sunday spread rapidly across the United States and worldwide, sparking reaction of local residents surrounding the events which culminated from an extensive search since the terrorist attacks in 2001.

Mixed reactions were shared this morning regarding Sunday’s turn of events.

“It didn’t bother me either way,” said George Thompson of Mount Vernon who watched the announcement on television Sunday. “I’m not really any more concerned ... not for a little while at least,” he said in addressing concerns of al-Qaida.

“It doesn’t make a bit of difference. It won’t go away,” said Jon Moore of Mount Vernon while having breakfast this morning at Barb’s Diner. “It was a ‘feel good’ moment for the president. Maybe now we can get some troops home to do some serious good.”
