UTICA — Voters in the village of Utica rejected an 8-mill levy for current village expenses in Tuesday’s election by a 286 to 186 margin.

“It’s very sad. Maybe people didn’t realize the significance of the levy,” said Utica Mayor Larry Friesel after Tuesday’s levy defeat. “It will be up to council on what to do next, but I’m sure there will be cuts in personnel and services.”
