MOUNT VERNON — Three Mount Vernon men were arrested following a burglary at a home on Newark Road where firearms were stolen Wednesday morning.

According to Knox County Sheriff David Barber, a 9-1-1 call was received Wednesday at 11:28 a.m. from a resident on Newark Road in Pleasant Township reporting two males carrying items from his neighbor’s home; adding that the neighbor was not home at the time. Deputies responding to the scene obtained a description of the suspect vehicle and determined that the residence had been burglarized.

Barber said detectives located the vehicle at a residence on Broadway Street where three male subjects were arrested, one following a brief foot chase. The three are currently being held in the Knox County Jail on charges of burglary. Those arrested are Herschel Ray Jones III, 27, of 613 Broadway St., Mount Vernon; Travis T. McNamara, 20, of 103 Columbus Road, Mount Vernon; and Austin Lee Tatman, 18, of 55 1/2 Columbus Road, Mount Vernon.

Additional charges are expected to be filed once the case is submitted to the Knox County Prosecutor’s Office. Detective Sgt. Roger Brown and Detective David Light are handling this continuing investigation.

The sheriff said the outstanding work of the detective and patrol divisions combined with the observations and the willingness to get involved by neighbors led to the arrests and recovery of the stolen property in this case.
