MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Commissioners met with Mount Vernon City Council and administration on Monday night for the first of two meeting in 2011. The two groups moved through a short agenda that dealt largely with financial issues.

City Safety-Service Director Dave Glass announced the grant application for the bridge enhancement fund project has been completed and turned into the Ohio Department of Transportation. An announcement on where funds will be allocated is expected by September.

Water rates for those living outside the city limits but using city water or wastewater services were discussed by the two entities. The city charges a 40 percent surcharge for usage outside the city limits.

Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis said the city is considering taking over the management of the Clinton Township Water District in an effort to save residents money on their bills.

“With Clinton Township Water District, the idea is to stabilize the cost so that costs don’t have to go up anymore,” Mavis said.
