MOUNT VERNON — A teacher at St. Vincent de Paul School, John Vining, was apparently sent home from school Friday for allegedly slapping a student.

According to a police report filed with the Mount Vernon Police Department, a 13-year-old male student has accused Vining of assault.

Officials at the school would not comment on the incident, but Father Shawn Corcoran, chancellor of the Columbus diocese, said diocese policy has been followed regarding the allegations. He declined to elaborate.

A spokesman for the MVPD stated the information has been forwarded to the Knox County Prosecutor’s Office.
