FREDERICKTOWN — Following an executive session to discuss personnel and financial matters, the Fredericktown Board of Education on Tuesday took action to reduce expenses.

On Tuesday, the following positions were eliminated: 2.5 special education teachers, half-time music teacher, two elementary teachers, one middle school teacher, one high school teacher, one high school physical education/health teacher, one elective elementary/middle school teacher, one assistant middle school/high school principal, one bus driver and one custodian. These reductions are expected to save the district approximately $500,000.

In April, the board eliminated one librarian position and the gifted teacher position.

The board also voted to discontinue the golf program and to eliminate busing for all students within the village of Fredericktown, excluding those west of Ohio 13. Pay to participate fees will double, beginning with the 2011-12 school year. High school sports will go to $200 per participant per sport, middle school sports will increase to $140 per participant, per sport, and band will be $100 per participant.
