MOUNT VERNON — The highest award presented by the Exchange Club of Mount Vernon/Knox County was bestowed on Sally Parsons when the local service club conducted its 54th annual Book of Golden Deeds Award banquet Wednesday evening at the Knox County Career Center.
“Golden means very valuable, and deeds means acts,” stated Marcia Rojas in explaining the definition of the Golden Deeds Award. “These people do very valuable acts,” she said, after past recipients of the award were recognized by board of directors member Kathy Tharp.
“Things to keep in mind when selecting the Golden Deeds Award recipient are that they are truly sincere in helping the community, they are unselfish and they enjoy giving to others,” said Rojas. “Their volunteer efforts are very important. They should not go unnoticed.”
Presenting the award to Parsons were Francis and Cora Durbin, the 2010 recipients of the award. In reading excerpts of letters from those nominating Parsons, the Durbins quoted that Parsons, “Is a warm, loving and caring person who gives freely to others. She is surely one of God’s angels” and she “shows compassion and caring through a genuine true heart.”
