MOUNT VERNON — The case of alleged assault on a 13-year-old student has reportedly been turned over to the Mount Vernon City Law Director’s Office. The Mount Vernon Police Department received a report of an alleged case of assault on May 6. A teacher at St. Vincent de Paul School was then sent home after being accused of slapping a student at school that day. The MVPD had forwarded information to the Knox County Prosecutor’s Office, where Prosecutor John Thatcher now states the case has been turned over to the city law director’s office.

Mount Vernon Assistant City Law Director Rob Broeren would not comment when asked if charges had been filed stemming from the police report. He stated it is not the policy of his office to comment on cases they may or may not be investigating.

Family members of the student in the assault case have not returned calls for comment.
