MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Treasurer Sandra Mizer announces that effective May 31 her office will no longer accept payments by credit card. Individuals may pay by check, money order or cash in the treasurer’s office.

Credit card payments will be handled through www.Officialpayments.com or by calling Official Payments at 800-272-9829, jurisdiction code 8436. There is a fee for this service. Credit card payments may also be made at any Knox County office of First-Knox National Bank as a cash advance.

“I have been fortunate to be able to offer credit card service to property owners without any fees; however, I can no longer offer this service through my office and feel the Official Payments option will be convenient for people to pay taxes online or by phone,” said Mizer.

Second-half real estate taxes will be due on Monday, June 20, and bills will be mailed approximately four weeks prior to the due date.

Anyone having questions regarding payment options should contact the Knox County Treasurer’s Office, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 393-6739.
