MOUNT VERNON — The R.R. Hodges Chapel auditorium was filled to capacity as 253 graduates received diplomas at the 48th annual commencement convocation of Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Saturday morning.

Provost and chief academic officer Henry Spaulding II gave a commencement focus after opening remarks by university president Daniel Martin and the singing of the hymn “Be Thou My Vision.”

“We have given to what is true, noble and good,” said Spaulding. “Let us run today the race that is set before us.”

Providing special music was graduate candidate Lauren Johnson, who sang the song “Better Hands.”
