BLADENSBURG — The East Knox Board of Education voted to eliminate high school busing during Monday’s regular meeting. The proposal to close the Bladensburg elementary school was tabled and a motion to revert back to half-day kindergarten did not make it to a vote.

A public participation session allowed residents to voice their opinions on the consideration of closing the Bladensburg elementary building, eliminating high school busing for the 2011-12 school year and reducing kindergarten to half-time for the 2011-12 school year.

“I feel this should be a very last option,” said Albert Winke in speaking of the recommendation to close the elementary building. “We need to exhaust all other efforts until this is absolutely necessary.”

“If you close the Bladensburg school, it will never re-open again; you’re only creating a division in the district,” said Sherrell Benedict..
