MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Board of Trustees, after its recent May meeting, announced that the new building next to the Buchwald Center will be named Hunter Hall.
Located in downtown Mount Vernon, Hunter Hall will house MVNU’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences. It was named in recognition of Richard and Theresa Hunter, and Maureen Hunter Buchwald, maternal grandparents and mother (respectively) to Karen Buchwald Wright.
“I was pleased to present the name, Hunter Hall, to our board of trustees for their consideration.” said President Dr. Dan Martin, “The board recognizes the tremendous influence and impact Ms. Buchwald Wright and her parents, Jim and Maureen Buchwald, have made in this community. Additionally, Ms. Buchwald Wright has provided significant leadership and support in the development of the university’s Buchwald Center for art and design, and now the advancement of Nursing and Health Sciences programs that will educate health care professionals in a state-of-the-art facility. What was once a darkened building filled with only memories is being revived to become a dynamic location that focuses on the future of our city as well as the future of students and community members alike. The board of trustees unanimously and enthusiastically approved the name Hunter Hall.”
The building is on target to be completed later this summer with plans for a grand opening in early fall. The 32,000-square-foot facility will provide a strong means to connect with the Mount Vernon community and excellent opportunities for students. It will include a health promotion center open to the public, multi-functional classrooms and conference rooms, state-of-the-art clinical laboratories with computer simulation models, observation rooms with digital recording capabilities, dedicated space for expanding programs like medical technology, faculty offices, and student study lounge.
Four-year programs are currently available in nursing and medical technology. Expanded program offerings are expected in the near future. Dr. Martin stated, “Beyond nursing, I am excited about the new programs and emphases we will be able to envision and implement because of what the facility offers with its space and scalability.”
