Driver Lois Latimer, 54, Centerburg, escaped with minor injuries when her car, on the left, left U.S. 36 east of Bangs, Thursday at 3:40 p.m. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said she was westbound when her car veered off the right side of the road into a deep ditch and traveled 350 feet hitting a utility pole before jumping over a driveway, hitting this pickup parked along the road. After crossing three yards and two streets, this Nissan Pathfinder wound up hitting the north porch of a home at 121 Mansfield Road Thursday morning. According to the Mount Vernon police, Shannon Kegley, 28, Mount Vernon, was heading to the north entrance to Dan Emmett Elementary School when she apparently lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle went through the yard at 120 Mansfield Road, crossed Nuce Road, crossed the yard at 122 Mansfield Road, crossed Mansfield Road and went through the front yard at 121 Mansfield Road, striking the north porch of the house and a car parked in the driveway. Kegley was transported to Knox Community Hospital, but the children in the car and the occupants of the house were unhurt. Kegley has been charged with failure to control. (Photo by Chuck Martin)
The new bridge over Banning Road at the intersection of Lover’s Lane has been opened. The 71-foot-long by 28-foot-wide bridge is of prestressed beams with a deck of composite concrete and steel reinforcing rods. The cost was $270,000.
