BRANDON — No sooner did the last echo of the 21-gun salute fade into the still, humid air, then its sound was replaced by the solemn refrain of Taps from a lone bugler. Young and old stood in silent reverence as the Brandon community reflected and remembered.

For residents of Brandon, Sunday’s ceremonial 21-gun salute to the area’s fallen soldiers for Memorial Day was the most moving moment of the annual event, which also included a parade and a special Sunday service.

The parade started at Brandon Memorial Park, where there is a memorial listing everybody who served in World War II from Miller Township.
