MOUNT VERNON — A large crowd enjoyed a beautiful day while remembering those who fought to grant Americans freedom and liberty during Memorial Day ceremonies in Mount Vernon on Monday.

Following the theme, “Our Guardians of Freedom and Liberty, May They Rest in Peace,” several essays on the memories of Memorial Day were read by local students. Haley Burnside, Abigayle Rogers, Brett Kennedy and Bethany Kelly all shared their memories and thoughts on Memorial Day to the large crowd on Public Square.

“I am proud to be living in a country that honors people that have given their lives for the freedom of others. Memorial Day makes me proud to be an American,” said Burnside.
