NEWARK — Set a direction, set goals and don’t give up your dreams, but be flexible and take advantage of the opportunities that come your way, Jamey Bero told the 2011 graduates of Utica High School on Sunday in the auditorium at C-Tec. Bero, a 1981 graduate of Utica High School, is the director of student affairs for the School of Pharmacy at the University of Charleston.

Plans do change, she told the graduates. She started college planning to major in chemical engineering but wound up in education and along the way took advantage of opportunities to spend a semester in Sweden and to travel with Clint Black’s band as a wardrobe manager.
