MOUNT VERNON — Members of the Mount Vernon High School Class of 2011 were challenged to “Spread your wings and fly,” in a presentation by class member Sarah Ryan during Sunday’s 151st annual commencement exercises at Yellow Jacket Stadium. Ryan shared her experience in moving from Phoenix, Ariz., to Mount Vernon, in what she called a “culture shock,” that was “a bit hard to adjust.”

“But Mount Vernon High School was very welcoming and very organized,” said Ryan. Here, she said, she was taught the definition of success, as teachers and counselors guided her through much growth during her high school years.
