MOUNT VERNON — Department heads of numerous county offices met with the Knox County Board of Commissioners on Thursday morning to give a quarterly report on their department activities.

Rob Clendening, program administrator for the Knox Soil & Water Conservation District, told of a county ditch inspection which took place last week with the county commissioners to assess the current condition of drainage ditches. Meetings have also been taking place regarding gas and oil leasing issues. “They have gone really well. There’s been a lot of good information shared for landowners,” said Clendening. “A lot of it is speculative leasing.”

Although there are no reported cases of well water contamination in Ohio from drilling, Clendening stated that any concerned property owner can request documentation about the area water base line. Clendening is also working with Heidelberg College on new testing procedures. Costs for the procedures are to be very minimal and should be available by early fall.
