MOUNT VERNON — City officials continue to push the owner of property on Venture Drive to fix what has become quite a road hazard.
Glimcher Realty owns the 300-feet of land between Pat Catans and the Park Hill Apartments, but has not been taking care of the road so the city has filled the holes so it is passable.
City Safety-Service Director Dave Glass said they discussed the idea of fixing up the road and placing a lien on the company’s taxes, but the legal department said the city could assume long-term responsibility for the land if it does and recommended the city continue to push the owner to fix it.
Glass said to properly fix that portion of the road would cost about $40,000 to $50,000 and that it would be in the city’s best interest to attempt to persuade the company to do the work. But, the company, which has its headquarters in New York, has not responded to several calls and letters.
In the meantime, the city has filled the holes in the road in an effort to make it passable for city residents.
