MOUNT VERNON — A time for some brotherly fellowship and sharing of stories from the past was enjoyed by Knox County veterans Sunday afternoon at Riverside Park. The Knox County Veterans Service Office hosted its annual picnic to give area veterans the chance to come together as a unit in a fun day of relaxation and entertainment.

“It’s good to see them all alive,” said David Potes, U.S. Army veteran of 1956-69. “I always come here to this. It’s nice to see my fellow veterans.”

Attending the picnic was Lloyd McNutt, a representative of the Veterans Association office in Columbus who was encouraging veterans to sign up for health benefits. “A lot of veterans don’t know they have benefits due them,” said McNutt who travels with the VA Outreach Program to various events. “We just want to let them know about it.”
