MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon school board president Margie Bennett said Thursday’s special board meeting was bittersweet. The board hosted a reception for retirees at the start of the meeting, and Bennett said it was hard to say good-bye to the excellent teachers and staff who have served the district so well over the years.

Bennett said the board discussed the district’s organizational chart and the consolidation of duties. For instance, newly hired Mark Shively will be performing duties as supervisor of activities, including athletics, as well as duties as high school building manager. East Elementary principal Eric Brown will do double duty as he takes on the role of principal at Columbia Elementary School while current principal Pam Rose will move to Central Office to take on the student services position.
