The construction of a storage building for the Knox County Sheriff’s Office is under way. The building, 40-foot-by-64-foot, is being constructed by Cleary Building Corp., Heath, at a cost of $49,900. An emergency resolution was passed in February by the Knox County Board of Commissioners to move forward with the project after evidence stored at the Mount Vernon City impound lot was destroyed in a fire. Under emergency status, the bid process is circumvented to allow for acquisition of three estimates. The estimates must be less than $50,000. According to Knox County Assistant Prosecutor Chip McConville, the intent was to construct the building as soon as possible, but weather conditions prolonged the process.
