MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office has a new narcotics detection dog. Bowie, a 14-month-old yellow Labrador retriever joined the department two months ago. His handler is Detective Doug Turpen, who owns and is familiar with dogs.

Bowie was certified as a narcotics detection dog on Thursday.

Bowie was trained by Azzi International Services for Dogs at Ashley. Owner Jerry Azzi said they train dogs for numerous law enforcement agencies in explosives detection as well as narcotics. Bowie was found at Savin’em All Animal Rescue in Marengo.
