CENTERBURG — Centerburg School District Treasurer Ellen Scott told the News on Tuesday the school board continued its austerity measures. It voted to freeze the supplemental and classified staff salary schedules for the 2011-12 school year. There will be no increase in base pay and no step movement for the 2011-12 school year. There will also be no base pay increases in 2012-13 or 2013-14, with step increases only for eligible personnel.
Scott said the board was able to renew liability, violence, auto and property insurance with the Ohio School Plan with no increase in premiums, and renewed its agreement with Mohican Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation for athletic trainer services at no change in costs. The district also received a Readiness and Emergency Management Services grant to install internal door locks in the high school and middle school. Scott said Centerburg was one of only three schools in the state to get REMS funding.
Also concerning cost containment measures, Scott said a representative from Solar Planet presented a proposal to bring solar energy to the district which should result in substantial energy savings to the district. The board will consider the matter.
