MOUNT VERNON — As far as most pupils are concerned, when school is out for the summer, school is out for the summer. Some students do attend summer school, and about 30 area middle schoolers decided to check out the summer career exploration activities offered by the Knox County Career Center this week.

The youngsters had several options from which to choose, including aerospace exploration, child care, digital portfolio/desktop publishing, building trades/carpentry, interior design/flower arranging, computer integrated manufacturing, sports medicine/nursing and welding.

Lyle Reusser coordinated the program, which was designed to give students entering grades eight, nine and 10 a chance to learn about different career fields and get some hands-on experience. He said program attendees were all “great,” and the volunteer teachers were doing an excellent job of engaging the students and getting them involved.
