HOWARD — The decision to pursue a tax levy for the Nov. 8 ballot was made by the East Knox Board of Education when it met in regular session Monday evening at East Knox Middle School. This came after much discussion took place in the public participation session of the meeting regarding the failure of recent levies.

Duane Dugan was first to address the board, asking why a levy was being pursued once again. “Something’s not working,” said Dugan, in citing that 13 out of 13 precincts did not approve the most recent levy. He shared recent newspaper articles stating other school districts have opted to freeze salaries, and that others were sharing common administrators, all in an attempt to save money. “With this kind of feedback, you’re going to have to do something different,” said Dugan.
