MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon school employees ratified contract agreements which freeze salaries and step increases and include a 5 percent increase in the employee share of insurance premiums. The Board of Education also ratified the agreements at its meeting on Monday. The agreements are effective for one year.

Superintendent Steve Short said the associations — the Mount Vernon Education Association [whose contract was ratified in April], the Mount Vernon School Employees Association and the Mount Vernon Association of School Administrators — are very aware of the district’s finances and what is in the best interest of the community.

“I appreciate what they did in negotiations,” he said. “Working together we have been able to do positive things for the community.”

“I am moved by their understanding of our financial situation,” said school board member Steve Thompson. “Hats off to everyone involved.”
